The James Connolly Society Scotland are now formally affiliated with the 1916 Societies. This decision was taken after the most extensive members consultation in JCS history. Our affiliation has now been ratified by the 1916 Societies Officer Board and Coiste. The James Connolly Society looks forward to playing a full and positive part in the continued development and growth of the 1916 Societies.
All JCS campaigning and commemorative activities will continue as normal. This affiliation is consistent with our founding principles and our constitution. The James Connolly Society will immediately begin the process of updating all our materials to reflect our affiliation and our social media team have been asked to update their material accordingly.
The James Connolly Society Scotland has a track record of republican activism stretching back to the 1980’s. During this period we have remained committed to the Irish republic envisaged in the 1916 Proclamation. The JCS believes the people of Ireland have the same right to national self determination as the people of Scotland. The James Connolly Society is committed to campaigning for an all Ireland referendum on Irish reunification.
The James Connolly Society Scotland and the 1916 Societies do not support or favour any political party. Individual members may support, or be members of, political parties but the James Connolly Society as a collective body will remain independent of all political parties.
The James Connolly Society is Scotland’s most prominent republican organisation and has been for over 25 years. The JCS have members throughout Scotland (and England and Wales) and our affiliation to the 1916 Societies offers republicans in Scotland the opportunity to join a political organisation committed to putting the partition of Ireland and Irish reunification onto the political agenda in Scotland.
